William Shakespeare lived in the 16th century; he wrote 37 very famous plays, like Romeo and Juliet or Hamlet. He was also a poet.
The Globe is an old-looking theatre where you can see comedies and tragedies by Shakespeare. You can sit on wooden seats or stand in the yard in front of the stage, very near the actors … In fact, you are so near that you can almost touch them! It's like reality!
The settings, the costumes and the make up are great. But the plays are sometimes long (3 hours) if you are standing. And as the theatre doesn't have a roof, when it rains, it rains on the audience! So don't forget your umbrella …
Let's discover Notting Hill Carnival > Listen to Julia. She is a TV reporter and is preparing a documentary on the Notting Hill Carnival. What is it like?
Big Ben is not the name of the tower but the name of the biggest bell in the tower: it weighs 13 tonnes, the equivalent of 12 cars!
Imagine you are a guidebook writer and write a paragraph about one of these places: Madame Tussaud's, The London Eye, The National Gallery, Wembley Stadium, The Globe, Big Ben, Hyde Park, The Sherlock Holmes Museum …
You have to present the place, to give specific information and explain why it is a great place. Don't forget to include pictures (you can print them out or draw them yourself)!
