Look at the photos and paintings. Do you recognise Big Ben?
It is part of the British Parliament in London (picture 1). By night, Big Ben is also beautiful: you can see green lights at the top (picture 2). The clock is very big, it is 7 metres high (picture 3), as high as a house with 2 floors!
French painter Claude MONET lived in London in 1870-71. He painted the River Thames with Big Ben in the background. Can you see it on picture 4?
Picture 5 is a painting by famous British painter William TURNER. It shows the Parliament on fire ; just after the fire, builders built a clock tower which became Big Ben.
Now what about picture 6? Think about it: where did the photographer take the photo? In fact, it is a surprising picture... from inside the clock! At the bottom of the picture, there is a very famous white Abbey where Prince William and Kate Middleton got married on April 29th, 2011. Do you remember its name? West ......., Westminster Abbey!
